Driver Jailed After San Mateo High-Speed Police Chase

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) - A San Francisco man allegedly led California Highway Patrol officers on a car and foot chase through San Mateo Thursday afternoon, the CHP said.

Officers stopped a green Nissan 200 SX on eastbound state Highway 92, officials said.

The car exited the highway at Alameda de las Pulgas and came to a stop.

The driver, Kenneth Roberts II, 27, allegedly restarted his car, accelerated abruptly, and fled - nearly colliding with pursuing officers before getting away, according to the CHP.

Roberts was spotted several minutes later traveling north on Alameda de las Pulgas near Ralston Avenue in Belmont.

Officers allegedly pursued him for about 10 miles through San Mateo at speeds of up to 80 mph, officials said.

Roberts allegedly did not stop for traffic lights and stop signs, and drove the wrong way along parts of El Camino Real.

He then allegedly fled on foot and led officers on a chase through backyards, jumping over fences in the residential neighborhood, officials said.

The CHP officers detained Roberts, and he was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
