Parolee Arrested After Walnut Creek Chase

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) - Police arrested a parolee in Walnut Creek on Saturday after he allegedly led an officer on a brief chase in a stolen vehicle.

The officer spotted the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Mark Gonzales, a transient with a last known address in Oakland, driving on Pine Street in a 1994 Honda Accord that had been reported stolen earlier that day out of Oakland, police said.

When Gonzales saw the officer was following him, he allegedly attempted to flee.

The officer chased him onto Joann Court, where Gonzales got out of the car and attempted to run through two backyards, but police caught him.

Gonzales was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, evading and violating his parole.

Officers learned that Gonzales had recently been released from San Quentin State Prison for an earlier parole violation.

Nobody was hurt during the incident and the Honda was returned to its owner, police said.
