Gang Shootout Terrorizes Antioch Neighborhood

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) - A shooting in Antioch on Monday night that may have left a 19-year-old man paralyzed from the chest down, was preceded by an earlier shooting about two blocks away, but police don't believe the shootings were related.

The first shooting happened at 4:07 p.m. in the 1500 block of Sycamore Drive. Police received a report of a large fight in the area and then a report of shots being fired.

When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old Antioch man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He told officers he didn't know who shot him, but said the gunfire came from a small black car. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

The second shooting happened at about 9 p.m. in the 1700 block of Sycamore Drive. Officers were sent to the area after police received a report of several people shooting at each other.

"I saw muzzle flash, so I grabbed my granddaughter and wife and just pushed them inside," said one neighbor. "It was really scary."

When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old Antioch resident with a gunshot wound to his face.

KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:

Investigators also found shell casings from at least two different guns at the scene and bullet holes in several buildings and cars. It also appears that three stray bullets went through an apartment window and into the bedroom of a 9-year-old boy. Luckily, the boy was not in his bedroom at the time.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he remained in a medically induced coma. Investigators believe the second shooting was gang-related.
