2 Hurt In Petaluma Kitchen Fire

PETALUMA (CBS SF) - Two people were injured during a kitchen fire in a Petaluma apartment Thursday afternoon, a fire department battalion chief said.

A resident who was sleeping on the second floor of the apartment at 611 Lakeville Circle suffered smoke inhalation, Petaluma Fire Battalion Chief Russ Rasmussen said.

Another resident who extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher suffered a small finger burn, Rasmussen said.

The 12:50 p.m. fire caused major damage to a range top and moderate damage to cabinets above the stove, Rasmussen said. Smoke caused damage and staining throughout the apartment, Rasmussen said.

Smoke detectors alerted the sleeping resident, probably saving his life, Rasmussen said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
