Driver Hits, Kills Friend Leaving House Party On His Bike

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in San Jose early Saturday morning, according to police.

The victim, a 32-year-old San Jose resident, was on his bicycle in the middle of Cherry Avenue near Foxworthy Avenue when he was struck by a 2004 Subaru at about 2 a.m., police said.

Responding paramedics couldn't revive the bicyclist and pronounced him dead at the scene, according to police.

The driver, also a 32-year-old San Jose resident, was apparently friends with the bicyclist, and both had been at a house party nearby before the crash, police said.

Police questioned the driver at a local station, and he was later released without charges. Investigators have not yet said if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to contact San Jose police at (408) 277-8995.
