Fire Officials Investigating Fire In San Rafael Apartment Complex

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out in a downtown San Rafael apartment complex early Saturday morning.

At about 1:30 a.m., firefighters responded to 999 C St. on reports of smoke and fire coming from an apartment on the second floor.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and found flames burning the exterior of the building's second story.

Four residents were evacuated from the building, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames shortly after 2 a.m.

A damage estimate was not immediately available, but fire officials said the destruction was limited to the wall and exterior of the complex.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
