Man Fires Assault Rifle Outside Oakland Nightclub; 2 Killed

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A man who was denied entry into an Oakland nightclub opened fire with an assault rifle, killing two and injuring four others, one of two separate shootings outside city nightclubs in just over an hour, according to police.

Authorities were searching for the suspects in the first shooting, which happened shortly before 1 a.m. Monday at Sweet Jimmie's near the city's Jack London Square.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

Witnesses told authorities that several men arrived at the club together. When they were denied entry, one of them opened fire on the 10 to 15 people inside at the time.

Two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Four victims were taken to the hospital, two of whom are in critical condition.

Just over an hour later, police responded to another shooting at a nearby nightclub called Kimball's.  A man was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, a police officer said.

Investigators said the incidents don't appear to be related.
