San Francisco Muni Passenger Pepper Sprays Alleged Groper

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS / CBS 5) - A Muni bus was emptied at 16th and Mission streets Friday after a 17-year-old girl trying to defend herself from an assault wound up pepper spraying several passengers, police said.

The girl was accosted by two men who appeared to be drunk when she pulled out her pepper spray, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak of the San Francisco Police Department.

"Some of the fumes of pepper spray then affected three other persons on the bus," he said.

Two elderly women and the bus driver were all treated at the scene, Andraychak said.

The girl told police one of the men tried to grope her, but she declined to have them arrested.

Andraychak said officers assigned to the Mission District Police Station recognized the men, and investigators would review the bus video to determine whether any charges should be filed.

The incident happened at 3:30 p.m.
