HP Pledges $25M To Children's Hospital At Stanford

PALO ALTO (CBS/AP) - Technology company Hewlett-Packard is promising to donate $25 million to help a Silicon Valley children's hospital named for the late wife of HP's co-founder expand and improve patient safety.

Hewlett-Packard announced the gift to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital on Monday. The company plans to spread the contribution out over 10 years.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

Hospital CEO Christopher Dawes said the money will go toward a 100-bed expansion of the 311-bed facility. It also will be used for joint research projects between scientists at the hospital and HP.

HP Labs technologist Sharad Singhal said that the aim of the research is to develop computer systems that can prioritize information about patients so doctors and nurses are making informed treatment decisions.
