SF German Tourist Death Suspects Appear In Court

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- Six suspects accused in the fatal shooting of a German tourist remain in custody after making their first appearance in a San Francisco courtroom.

Phillip Stewart, Marcus Blueford, Delvon Scott, Willie Eason, Gethsemine Pita and Raheem Jackson did not enter pleas Thursday. Their arraignment was postponed to May 16.

Stewart, Blueford, Scott, Eason and Jackson have been charged with murder. Pita and another juvenile have been charged with being an accessory to murder in the slaying of Mechthild Schroer of Minden, Germany, on Aug. 8, 2010.

Prosecutors say the 50-year-old Schroer was shot during an exchange of gunfire between two rival gangs.

Prosecutors said Thursday that the 17-year-old Jackson is being charged as an adult, while a second juvenile will be charged in juvenile court.

An eighth suspect is still being sought.

Family members of Blueford and Jackson standing outside court denied their roles with the shooting.
