San Jose City Councilman Arrested For DUI

SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- A San Jose city councilman was arrested Saturday for drunken driving after what he called a "terrible error in judgment."

In a written statement Sunday, Ash Kalra said he was pulled over in downtown San Jose around 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a broken tail light after spending the evening with friends.

Kalra said he was taken into custody for at least four hours and then released with a citation for driving under the influence. He said a preliminary test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.12. The legal limit is 0.08.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

At a press conference at his home Sunday, Kalra said he felt the need to be honest about the incident and hopes his mistake will serve as a cautionary tale. He said he had apologized to his fellow council members.
