Fatal SF Hit & Run Suspect Identified As Sheriff's Cadet

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man suspected of striking and killing a pedestrian with his car in San Francisco's North of Panhandle neighborhood early Friday and then fleeing the scene is a cadet with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, a sheriff's spokeswoman said Monday.

Jose Jimenez, 23, was arrested after allegedly hitting James Hudson, 61, at about 2:30 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Masonic Avenue between Turk Boulevard and Golden Gate Avenue, police said.

Hudson died at the scene.

Jimenez also struck four vehicles in the area. He was located and taken into custody a short time later on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence, according to police.

Jimenez is a sheriff's cadet who provides security at the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management's 911 operations center, spokeswoman Susan Fahey said.

He was on a day off at the time of the crash, Fahey said.
