Computer Outage Hits San Francisco Police & Fire Departments

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- The computer-aided dispatch system utilized by San Francisco's police and fire departments went down unexpectedly on Thursday, but authorities said that the outage was not impacting their ability to deliver emergency services in the city.

A statement issued by the SFPD said that the "department is manually dispatching officers to calls for service. It is not having any affect on public safety."

"The (computer) system is being worked on actively to fix it as soon as possible," the police statement indicated.

No further details were immediately available.
