Alameda 12-Year-Old Hit, Killed While Riding Bicycle
ALAMEDA (KCBS) – Teachers and students at an Alameda middle school Wednesday were mourning the death of a 12-year-old student who was killed while riding his bike Monday afternoon.
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
Brandon Sorensen was riding his bike at Santa Clara Avenue and Everett Street just before 4 p.m. when he was hit by an SUV. He was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland where he was pronounced dead.
Police aren't sure what caused the accident. The driver, who is cooperating fully with police, has not been cited.
Counselors were on hand at Lincoln Middle School to help students and faculty. Many students said that this tragedy will make them more vigilant about bicycle safety.
