Phil Matier: Schwarzenegger's Legacy

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - This week former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged an affair with a maid and a child that resulted from that affair.

The KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier was joined by former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown to discuss the controversy surrounding the former California governor and how it will affect his political career.

KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier comments with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown:

Matier and Brown agreed that Schwarzenegger is probably not going to pursue a further career in politics.

"I would assume that Arnold Schwarzenegger would remove himself from the business of having voters comment 'yes' or 'no' on whether or not he should hold office," Brown said.

"Arnold wasn't going anywhere politically," Matier said. "He was a star. Being governor is a starring role."

Brown said it was Schwarzenegger's star quality that propelled him - he was never a career politician.

Matier said there are no elected officers in Sacramento that remain as Schwarzenegger's legacy.

"It's as if he just packed up his tent and left," Matier said.

Brown thinks Schwarzenegger will be remembered for having an affair with a maid and winning after his predecessor, Gray Davis, was recalled.
