Oakland Man Listed In Gang Injunction Arrested During Assault Weapons Sting

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland police arrested a man, who was listed in a gang injunction, during a weapons investigation Thursday, police said.

Joseph Coombs was arrested after police allegedly set up a deal with him to buy two high-powered assault weapons, according to police.

The police department's SWAT team arrived at the scene of the alleged planned sale, and a search warrant was executed, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter around Coombs' location and waited for him to emerge.

They waited for about three hours before Coombs surrendered to police.

Officers recovered two assault weapons that Coombs had allegedly intended to sell, police said.

"This is a big win for the city," police Chief Anthony Batts said in a statement. "Anytime guns are taken of the streets, it's a win for everyone."
