Buster Posey Undergoes Successful Surgery
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey had surgery Sunday to repair torn ligaments in his ankle sustained in a collision at home plate Wednesday night.
The 2010 NL Rookie of the Year said it was "highly likely" his season would be over on Friday after he broke a bone in his lower left leg and injured the ankle in a collision with Florida's Scott Cousins. There is no timetable for his return.
Posey said at the time he was in almost constant pain, but was confident he'll make a full recovery.
The collision has sparked a debate on if rules should be changed to better protect catchers at the plate. Posey felt Cousins could have slid around him but said the collision was a legal play.
