Firefighter Hurt In San Jose Mobile Home Fire; 10 Displaced

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A blaze at a mobile home in San Jose Tuesday morning left 10 people displaced and a firefighter with second-degree burns to his face, a fire captain said.

Four adults and six children were displaced by the fire, which destroyed a double-wide mobile home in the 1300 block of Sunbeam Circle, near U.S. Highway 101 and Story Road, Capt. Scott Kouns said.

The firefighter suffered burns to his face because of a gap between his protective hood and his mask, Kouns said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Six people were home when the fire broke out at about 10:10 a.m.  but were able to exit safely before firefighters arrived, Kouns said.

Responding crews quickly began working to prevent the one-alarm blaze from spreading to adjacent mobile homes, he said. They had the fire under control by noon.

It was unclear what started the fire, but the mobile home was destroyed, according to Kouns.

The Red Cross has been notified of the incident, he said.
