One Dead, 2 Injured In Head-On Crash On Hwy 4

BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- A man died and two boys were injured in a head-on crash on state Highway 4 in unincorporated Contra Costa County near Discovery Bay Friday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Highway 4 near Discovery Bay Boulevard, according to the CHP.

A 2004 Ford F-150 truck traveling east on the highway crossed over the double yellow lines and struck a 2001 Ford F-250 truck head-on, CHP Officer Tom Maguire said.

The driver of the F-150, a 48-year-old Santa Rosa man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released until his family is notified of the death, according to Contra Costa County Deputy Coroner Steve Casas.

The driver of the F-250 truck was uninjured, but his two 10-year-old boys suffered minor injuries, Maguire said.

One of the boys was taken by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Oakland, while the other was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to Maguire.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but its cause remains
under investigation, Maguire said.
