Richmond Bike Path Part Of Downtown Revitalization Effort

RICHMOND (KCBS) — Downtown Richmond's Transit Village is now more convenient for the two largest employers there. Thousands of employees can now enjoy a safer trip to work through a new pedestrian and bicycle project.

The $1 million Nevin Avenue Pedestrian and Bicycle Linkages Project runs from Kaiser Medical Center to the Social Security building and is in a once neglected part of the city.

The transit village around the BART and Amtrak stations is newly improved with stores and new housing. Steven Duran, director of the city's Community and Economic Development Department, said the project is part of the city's downtown revitalization efforts.

"It made Nevin from the BART station all the way to Kaiser which passes right in front of the Social Security building very pedestrian and bicycle friendly," said Duran.

KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:

According to Duran the visibility and lighting in the area are good and that hopefully people will be encouraged to walk or bike to work.

Kaiser and Social Security are Downtown Richmond's two major employers.
