Unions Demand San Jose Officials Negotiate Pension Reform

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Unions representing architects and engineers, mid-level managers, and maintenance supervisors planned to hold a news conference at noon Monday to demand that San Jose's City Administration negotiate pension reform.

Members of the three unions actually began assembling in an RV parked across the street from San Jose City Hall to speak with the City Administration much earlier in the day - at around 4 a.m.

The news conference was slated to take place near the parked RV on East Santa Clara Street between Fourth and Fifth streets across from City Hall.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

The RV was described as being highly visible because the camper was draped with a red banner reading "tell the truth, negotiate now."

Union brass said they were simply trying to secure an opportunity to talk to city officials about pension negotiations before the City Council declared a fiscal emergency and adopted a pension reform ballot measure - something that could happen later in the month.
