18-Year-Old Graduates From Santa Clara University

SANTA CLARA (KCBS) — When Santa Clara University holds its commencement Saturday, an 18-year-old from Palo Alto will be among the top graduates.

Morgan Hunter admits commencement at SCU will be something new for her.

"The only other graduation I've had was my 8th grade graduation, so this will be a bigger deal by comparison. I didn't get a cap and gown at my 8th grade one," she said.

Back when Hunter was a student at Bowman International Montessori she scored a perfect 800 on the verbal portion of the SAT. She skipped high school and enrolled at Santa Clara when she was 14.

KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:

With her 3.97 grade point average, Hunter was able to graduate summa cum laude with a double major in Latin and Greek.

"This is much easier than high school. You don't have to go to class everyday, get there at seven thirty, or deal with all the social stuff," said the honors student who's even teaching a Latin class at her old middle school.

"Kids really like when I tell them gory stories about Greek tragedy or Roman history or whatever."

Hunter does not discuss her IQ and only wants to be known for her accomplishments. She's conversant in five languages and is headed to grad school at UC Berkeley this fall to study the classics and hopes to get her Ph.D.
