New San Carlos Fire Department Looking To Fill Job Openings

SAN CARLOS (KCBS) – The Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department is dissolving later this year, leaving San Carlos officials looking for a few good firefighters and paramedics.

San Carlos City Manager Jeff Maltbie said they are doing plenty of recruiting so that the San Carlos Fire Department will be ready to open in October.

"We're putting together an employment list so that when our new department comes online in October, we're going to have a pool of applicants that we can draw from," Maltbie said.

KCBS' Susan Kennedy Reports:

He said he anticipates that some of the current firefighters will want to transfer to the new department. They are also looking for a fire captain and paramedics for the new department, which will utilize Redwood City's fire management.

Maltbie said that because it's a new department, they are starting from scratch. That means they will be able to institute new salaries along with pension reform that is expected to save San Carlos up to $1.5 million.
