Former 49ers receiver and NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice is one of many pro athletes who aspired to play pro golf.

John Madden told the KCBS morning crew recently that it's not as easy as it looks to transition from team sports to success on the fairway.

"(Pro golfer) Davis Love, that's one of his pet peeves... Why does every guy who plays another sport think they can play golf with a pro," Madden said. "But golfers don't think that about any other sport...Phil Mickelson isn't walking down the 18th hole at Augusta saying 'I think next year I'm going to be the nose tackle for the New England Patriots.'"
