SF Parking And Traffic Worker Shot In Bayview District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A San Francisco parking and traffic employee was shot in the shoulder blade while working in a city vehicle in the Bayview District Friday morning, police and fire officials said.

The San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic employee, who was driving a painting truck, was in the truck with another DPT employee near Palou Avenue and Quint Street, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

While making a U-turn or a similar maneuver around 8:30 a.m., a nearby driver became upset and began to curse and become belligerent. The suspect got then got out of his car, Esparza said.

The DPT driver drove away to avoid an altercation when the suspect opened fire at the DPT truck. The suspect fired multiple shots, one of which hit the driver in the shoulder blade, according to Esparza.

The suspect then fled in his vehicle and has not been found, he said.

The employee was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and has since been released from the hospital, fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

No one else was injured in the shooting, Esparza said.

Police are investigating the shooting and talking with witnesses.

They also hope to speak with the driver to learn more about the suspect, he said.
