Whales Spotted Near Shore Along Monterey Bay

MONTEREY (CBS 5) – A group of killer whales made an up close and personal appearance to boaters in Monterey Bay this week.

Fishermen and tourists saw four orcas coming up for some air near Monterey Harbor on Wednesday. The group was returning home from a fishing and whale watching trip. Video of the rare sighting was posted on YouTube.

The whales were identified as one male, two females and a child.

Marine biologists say the whales were in the area to feed on Chinook salmon.

There is no evidence that the sea creatures were in danger when they were spotted.
