Family Rescued From Capsized Boat Off Of Alameda

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) - Coast Guard crews rescued a family from the water near Alameda Sunday morning, Coast Guard officials said.

A father and his two children were rescued 500 yards south of Ballena Bay in Alameda when their 19-foot aluminum boat capsized before 11:40 a.m., according to Operations Specialist Petty Officer 1st Class David Font.

Rescue crews from San Francisco responded to the call and arrived at 11:58 a.m., near the Encinal Boat Ramp where the boat had capsized. The crew rescued the man and two children from the water in a small boat, according to Font.

The capsized boaters were all reported to be in stable condition once ashore and were taken to Alameda Hospital for further evaluation, Font said.

Font said a majority of the boat was submerged in the bay with two to three feet of the bow out of the water.
