San Francisco Pride Celebration Strong As Ever, Despite Financial Problems

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The organizers of San Francisco's annual Gay Pride Parade say the financial hole they have been in for much of the past year has not affected this year's celebration.

The 2011 Pride weekend, which began Saturday, is expected to include just as many stages and events as last year.

Sunday's parade is similarly expected to have no shortage of floats and participants.

The nonprofit San Francisco Pride Celebration Committee said its financial woes do not appear to have scared off supporters as feared.

And the committee said it has begun to climb out of the red, reducing its debt from $225,000 to $77,000 since December and paying off community groups that complained they were shortchanged last year.
