Albany Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - An Albany soldier was among three Hawaii-based Army soldiers killed over the weekend in Kunar province, Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Tuesday that Twenty-eight-year-old Spc. Kevin Hilaman of Albany, died Sunday after insurgents attacked his unit.

Hilaman joined the Army in March 2003 as an infantryman. He was on his third overseas deployment.

In separate small arms fire attacks, 24-year-old 1st Lt. Dimitri Del Castillo of Tampa, Fla., and 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Nigel Kelly of Menifee, Calif., were killed Saturday after enemy forces attacked their units.

They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

Del Castillo joined the Army in May 2009 while Kelly joined in August 2003 as a combat engineer.

The men were all from the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks. They have numerous awards and decorations.
