Auto Test: Lincoln MKS AWD

(KCBS) - When I was traveling frequently for CBS, I often found myself going to the airport in a Town Car. I'd ask the driver why he bought a Lincoln and invariably he'd say "because their engines last forever."

Today, Lincoln has downsized its sedans and its engines, but with a six-year 70K warranty on the powertrain, it seems clear that the company still has great confidence in its engines and transmissions.

I found both to be first rate on the 2011 MKS--a full-size sedan. The 3.5 liter econoboost V6 had lots of pep, and the 6-speed automatic was buttersmooth.

The test car came with beautiful 20-inch wheels but the gigantic tires of that size pick up road imperfections at low speeds. At highway speeds, they're great with excellent traction.

The Lincoln has fine accommodations front and back with a huge trunk. Road mileage should be in the upper 20s. Price--dazzingly equipped--$57,000.
