Pedestrian Killed By Amtrak Train In Richmond

RICHMOND (KCBS) – A 27-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning by an Amtrak train in Richmond.

Amtrak spokesperson Steve Kulm said it happened just after 7 a.m., not far from the Richmond Amtrak Station.

"Apparently there was an individual on the tracks struck by an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train that was traveling from Sacramento to San Jose," Kulm said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Kulm said none of the passengers or crew aboard the train were injured.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

"The passengers who were on the train deboarded the train, have been put on buses and have continued on their way to their destination," he said.

As many as eight trains are expected to travel through Richmond on Sunday and Kulm said some passengers could face delays.

Anyone using Amtrak is encouraged to call 1-800-USA-RAIL for more information on possible delays.
