Burning Body Found In Oakland Rockridge Neighborhood

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A female body was found burning in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood Thursday morning, police said.

Police received multiple calls reporting the body at Ivanhoe and Chabot roads around 4:40 a.m., Oakland police Officer Holly Joshi said.

Investigators were unable to determine the victim's age and race due to the extent of burns and injuries, Joshi said.

(Editor's note: Warning -- the below video of the body found contains graphic footage.)

Joshi said it appeared the body had been dumped at the Rockridge location and that the victim had suffered trauma before she was burned. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The first priority for investigators was to identify the body, Joshi said.

The OPD was asking for the public's help in identifying the victim and were reviewing missing persons cases for a possible lead.

Anyone with information on the case was asked by Joshi to call the Oakland Police Department's homicide unit at (510) 238-7230.
