I work at Fisherman’s Wharf area and it’s a shame, but the area has turned from a nice, fun, heavily visited tourist area, to a run down area filled with a large amount of pyschologically impaired homeless people who have very violent tendecies.. Just a few months ago I helped SFPD arrest a homeless “VET” who critically assualted a male tourist because he wouldn’t give him any money. The homeless people are a huge nuisance.. They literally sleep everywhere they want to, urinate and defecate in open spaces like garages and doorways of businesses. The sad point is that the SFPD has viewed this seemingly as a very low priority or don’t quite know how to deal with the repeat offenders who literally view the area as their home and will threaten anyone that crosses them.

The state of affairs RW mentions is even more tragic when you consider that the tourism industry is the top revenue generator for SF. Pathetic that they won’t even protect the goose that is laying the golden eggs but instead protect the wolves that are trying to kill the goose!. Let’s keep tourism alive and well in SF by cracking down on these street bums!
