Man Shot To Death On East Palo Alto Street

EAST PALO ALTO (CBS SF) - Reports of gunfire led police to an East Palo Alto man who was shot and killed Monday night, police said.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of Illinois Avenue around 8:45 p.m. and found 23-year-old Jabari Banford lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, East Palo Alto police said.

Paramedics attempted to treat Banford, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Investigators believe that Banford was standing on the sidewalk and talking to someone in a vehicle when a white-colored sedan approached and stopped behind the other car, police said.

The suspect left the car, walked toward Banford and shot him in the torso several times before fleeing in the sedan, according to the East Palo Alto Police Department.

Detectives could not immediately provide any further details about the suspect.

Witnesses are encouraged to contact East Palo Alto police by calling or sending a text message to the anonymous tip line at (650) 409-6792. Anonymous tips can also be sent by email to epa@tipnow.org.
