Pacifica Boy On Bicycle Hit By Car, Killed

PACIFICA (CBS SF) - A Pacifica boy died after being struck by a car while riding a bike on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Palmetto Avenue between Esplanade Avenue and Westline Drive.

Responding Pacifica police officers and paramedics performed CPR on the 15-year old Pacifica resident until he regained a heartbeat, police said. He was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died Saturday as a result of his injuries.

He has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as Kijana Crossley.

Crossley, a student at Oceana High School, died of massive head trauma and was declared brain dead, Pacifica police Capt. Dave Bertini said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision but the preliminary report suggests Crossley may have been at fault, according to Bertini.

Bertini said the driver and Crossley were both heading north on Palmetto Avenue when Crossley swerved in front of the car and was struck.

"It was a tragic accident," Bertini said.

The driver of the car that struck Crossley and a witness gave the same statement about the accident, police said. Investigators also spoke with two other people who arrived just after the accident occurred.

Crossley's parents were at San Francisco General Hospital when their son passed away, he said.
