American Canyon Man Dies In Sonoma County Motorcycle Crash

EL VERANO (CBS SF) - A 31-year-old American Canyon man was killed Tuesday morning when an SUV struck his motorcycle near El Verano in Sonoma County, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Juan Pena was driving a 2006 Honda Shadow north on Arnold Drive at about 5:55 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Explorer turned from Walnut Avenue onto Arnold and failed to yield to Pena, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

The Explorer broadsided the motorcycle, pushing it to the west shoulder.

The CHP said Pena came to rest partially in a gully and was taken by Reach Air Ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Explorer, a 66-year-old Sonoma man, was not injured in the collision.

Paulson said the driver was not arrested at the scene, but that charges might be brought against him after the investigation is complete.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the CHP at (707) 253-4906.
