Despite Flagging Finances, San Jose Voters Unsupportive Of Tax Hikes
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Even though there is talk of a fiscal emergency, San Jose voters seem unlikely to vote for a tax hike according to a new poll released by the city.
Just over 1,200 San Jose voters were asked if they would support a sales tax increase to pay for additional city services such as police, fire and libraries. The poll only found lackluster support for a tax hike.

Of the five potential tax increases pitched to voters, only one – a quarter cent sales tax, seems viable with 57 percent support. That is still not enough, however, for the city council to risk putting it on the November ballot, according to the Mercury News. There is a chance they will hold on to it, and put it on the ballot during the 2012 presidential election.
