Brother Of Man Killed In SFPD Chase Arrested For Murder

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The brother of a man killed in a recent shooting that involved San Francisco police in the city’s Bayview District has been arrested in connection with a murder in Seattle, police said Wednesday.

Ondrell Harding, 21, was arrested Monday night south of Seattle as a suspect in the beating death of a 50-year-old man in Seattle on Saturday, Seattle police Detective Mark Jamieson said.

He has been booked into King County Jail and is being held without bail.

Ondrell Harding is the older brother of 19-year-old Kenneth Harding, who died after being shot while running from police who were conducting a San Francisco Municipal Railway fare check in the Bayview District on July 16.

Police said Kenneth Harding fired at officers and they returned fire. An autopsy later determined that the bullet that killed him did not come from a police gun, and police said he might have shot himself.

The incident has sparked protests in San Francisco, and Harding’s family held a news conference on Monday to announce that they were considering legal action against the San Francisco police.

At the news conference, Kenneth Harding’s mother said her son had come to San Francisco to launch his career as a rap artist. She said his brother has a recording contract with a record label in San Francisco and planned to help Harding.

Seattle police could not confirm how Ondrell Harding was taken into custody, but an attorney working with the family on the possible civil case said Tuesday that Harding was planning to turn himself in.

Prior to his arrest, Seattle police alerted San Francisco police that Harding was being sought for questioning, in case he was in the Bay Area, San Francisco police spokesman Albie Esparza said.

Kenneth Harding was a person of interest in a separate Seattle case—the July 13 murder of a 19-year-old woman—at the time of his death, police said.

Let me see if I get this right, Kenneth Harding was shot evading police after allegedlly shooting at them, his brother is arrested in connection with a murder, Kenneth was wanted in Seatle in connection with another murder! And now his family is going to try and cash in on this, only in america folks only in america!

  2. Stephen Quentin says:

I guess the family should sue the Seattle Police too. After all they shouldn’t be arresting people they suspect of murder just like they shouldn’t shoot his brother fro shooting at them. I also suppose this guy was going to attend Junior college like his dead brother according to the family. This should exempt him from justice because he was going to go on the right path next semester. Good riddance!

  3. Adrienne Nelson says:

Parents did a real stand up job with these two. Should be proud. Glad they’re both off the street. “Launch his career as a rap artist?” Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. At least the Seattle Police Dept. caught this one.

This is what keeps the police and press in business

  5. Jenny says:

Can’t wait for him to use the excuse that it was because his brother was shot by police in San Francisco!

  6. Ann says:

Wow! I wonder what the mom will say to this one. Kids are usually a product of the parents. One son (Kenneth) is a rapist & suspected murder and the other (Ondrell) a murderer. And they’re trying to sue.

Just when we needed another thug rap artist in the world. What a shame.

I can see the movie trailer now:

    Two brothers,
    One dream,
    Two murders,
    One suicide,
    One riot,
    One arrest,
    One mother wants to sue.

    Only in America

  10. Garrett says:

This is all because of the curse of political correctness. These two brothers were total wastes of skin, and the death of one and the jailing of the other makes the world a safer place. Then we have the Bayview community pulling the race card. I can tell you that anyone who pulls a gun a police officer is going to get shot, no matter what color or race.

Who does that mother think she’s talking to, a bunch of morons. The dead one was going to junior college? Yeah, a convicted felon at 19 who has served time. Got his GED in the joint? He was a criminal, a menace to himself and others, and like Oscar Grant should be dead. They don’t get a pass because they’re black, or their ancestors of 150 years ago were slaves. Just don’t work that way. If I hear one more mother like theirs talk about how good her son(s) are or were I am going to throw up. They deserve no money, and the mother should also be removed from the gene pool.

Such a wonderful family. The parents are probably just as thugish. Useless people

  12. Seriously says:

The parents are true LOSERS and have raised nothing but thug rats that have no business here on earth. Rap career?? That is a joke and LIE. The parents should be arrested for raising good for nothing criminals.

  13. Kodiax says:

by parents you assume there is a father somewhere in the undergrowth.. and uh.. wait. the brother arrested for murder has a recording contract? there is proof this exists? and aside from all else, the muni ticket thief violated parole by being in the state….and how long til mommy dearest comes out whining that this son too is a god fearing loving man and being oppressed by “the man”
