Daily Madden: Start Of The NFL Training Camp 'Party'

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden talks about the blown umpire call Tuesday night in the 19th inning that gave the Braves a controversial win over the Pirates.

"There are bang-bang plays in all sports, but it still amazes me how often they are right," said Madden, who acknowledged that catcher are probably less likely to block the plate following the Buster Posey injury.

Talk on blogs Wednesday suggested that the call was a step toward instant replay.

"It's going to come," said Madden.

The official signing window starts Friday, despite the fact that many training camps will already be open. Madden said the paperwork is falling far behind the frenzy of reporting on player movement.

"They notify the media before they even notify the league office," said Madden, who thinks all teams are in the same boat when it comes to getting ready for the season.

"You can't wait for everybody to get there to start the party," said Madden. "You just have to start coaching."
