San Jose Father Gets 25 Years For Shaking Baby Son To Death

SAN JOSE. (CBS / AP) -- A San Jose man convicted of murder for shaking his baby son to death will be serving 25 years to life in prison.

After jurors in May found Dana Kovacevich guilty of second-degree murder for the shaking death of his five-week-old son in 2007, a judge sentenced the 41-year-old Kovacevich Friday.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that Kovacevich told police he shook the baby because the child would not stop crying.

After being taken to a hospital, the boy was placed on life support and died a few days later after doctors determined he was brain-dead.

Doctors said the child suffered retinal and brain hemorrhaging, swelling of the brain and brain tissue bruising.
