Elderly Man, Young Girl Found Unconscious At Bottom Of SJ Pool

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – An elderly man and three-year-old girl have been hospitalized after being found at the bottom of a pool at an apartment complex in West San Jose on Monday afternoon.

Fire officials said two people were pulled from the pool at the Park Kiely apartment complex in San Jose. San Jose Fire Captain Mary Gutierrez said it all happened around 1 pm.

KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:

"The elderly man was playing with the little girl. The next thing they know, the elderly male went down and then the girl went down right after him," she said.

Gutierrez said the man is believed to be the girl's grandfather and may have suffered a medical problem just prior to going under.

Both were transported to Valley Medical Center, where they were said to be unconscious, but breathing. The conditions of the two are still unknown at this time.

Gutierrez said it appears the two were in the water 2-3 minutes before being pulled out by a swim instructor.

This latest incident comes less than a week after a Good Samaritan pulled a man and his young daughter from a pool in San Jose after they nearly drowned.
