Santa Cruz Man Arrested For Cocaine, Meth Possession

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A 75-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of having narcotics for sale and being under the influence of a narcotic after he was pulled over for vehicle code violations in Santa Cruz, according to Santa Cruz County Sheriff's officials.

A deputy initially stopped a blue Jeep pickup truck for vehicle code violations at Pryce and Ocean streets, but then arrested the driver, later identified as Felton resident Jack Smith, for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance, sheriff's officials said.

A K9 officer's dog, Ari, sniffed for any narcotics in the truck and found 9 grams of cocaine, 4 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, more than $300 in cash, packaging materials and other items used to sell cocaine and meth, the sheriff's office said.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotics for sale and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to officials.
