Driver Backing Up On SF Telegraph Hill Runs Over 3-Year-Old

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A 3-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries when he was run over by a car backing out of a driveway in San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill neighborhood Sunday evening, police said.

The incident was reported at 5:25 p.m. near the intersection of Grant Avenue and Edgardo Place.

A man was backing his car out of the driveway when a witness nearby yelled at him to stop because someone was under the vehicle, according to police.

The man got out of the car and saw that it had rolled over the boy, who suffered a serious head injury, police said.

The boy was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

The man cooperated with investigators, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

im sorry the little boy got hit but i gotta ask Where were the parents??

    2. Robin says:

They were right by him, on their way to a wedding reception. It happened right under their eyes. It is a really wonderful family, and their childrens’ classmates are very upset at this tragedy. My child is in the sibling’s class.

if you’ve ever had a child, you know these things can happen in the blink of an eye. Don’t be so quick to judge.

I mean come on.. What is a 3 yr. old doing on the sidewalk by himself ? How can the driver see a 3 yr old behind his car while backing out of HIS OWN garage. It just won’t happen.. The parent or guardian should be held responsible for negligence.

    1. Robin says:

He was not by himself. The parents were right there when it happened.

  3. robert says:

Why in hell is this on the news? What a bunch of bottom feeders-using someone else’s tragedy to attract attention……Disgusting!

    1. Brad says:

Because it DOES attract attention. Attention that is known as ratings!!!

    2. Ed says:

These type of information needs to get out in the public. I’ve encountered a couple of people with the same story. It seem inappropriate to report this kind of news, but it awares people. Be careful when backing out!!!

  4. Boogie says:

The man should sue the parents for the emotional distress he’s going through.

    1. Brad says:

The parents are more likely to sue him. He was the one who hit the child.

  5. Ella says:

YES……….WHERE IN THE HE** WERE THE PARENTS? THEY NEED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION!!!!! WHY WOULD A RESPONSIBLE PARENT ALLOW FOR THEIR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD TO BE OUTSIDE WITHOUT THEM SUPERVISING AND IN SOMEONE ELSE’S YARD? I DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT CONCEPT. PLEASE MAKE ME UNDERSTAND. THAT’S OK BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING THE PARENT CAN SAY RIGHT NOW THAT WOULD MAKE ME UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. john says:

Well it’s easy to assume the parents were negligent. Let the facts come out first before forming an opinion. Maybe the kid just ran off and maybe the driver back out of his driveway way too fast for anyone to react. I don’t think any of you know. What is fact is this is damn sad.

That’s it! I move for the board of stupidvisors to BAN ALL cars in SF…

I vote to ban all idiots from posting on the Internet!

Can we all learn how to get along? Why don’t we just pray for the precious 3 year old. OK?

  12. Eric Johnson says:

This is just poor reporting, lets run over CBS for lack of detail.

  13. stfu says:

You insensitive posters need to know the horrifying fact that a parent was driving. Go back to the holes that you crawled out of!

  14. Robin says:

Good heavens. Can people stop judging so quickly?? The parents were right by him, on their way to a wedding reception with the older brother. It happened right under their eyes. It is a really wonderful family, and their childrens’ classmates are very upset at this tragedy. My child is in the older sibling’s class.

If any of you post-happy judgmental folks had ever had a child, you know these things can happen in the blink of an eye. Don’t be so quick to judge.

It’s a tragedy for everyone involved.

    1. Michael Miranda says:

I’ve seen it happen myself, you are so right…

    2. doesnt matter says:

Yes, because responsible parents lets their 3 year old child run free in the strees weather they were there or not. He’s 3 years old, they should have been holding his hand or he should have been in a stroller. Don’t let him go himself even on sidewalk.

  15. Michael Miranda says:

I saw a little boy get hit by a car years ago…it was so frightening that I was shaking from the experience. I’ll never forget it. Turns out he was okay but he looked like he was seriously hurt as he was sent flying to the ground. It all happened so fast as some say here. I believe it.
