San Jose City Council Approves Netflix Deal

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – San Jose has approved a tax break deal to get Netflix to expand its DVD division in the city, part of a plan to bring in more businesses to the high tech corridor along North First Street.

The company, which is headquartered in Los Gatos, will lease a 55,000 square foot facility near San Jose Mineta International Airport.

"We're proud to have Netflix as one of our corporate tenants," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. "Even though they're headquartered in Los Gatos, we're happy to have our people working at Netflix and working in San Jose as well."

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

San Jose City Councilman Sam Liccardo, who represents the district, said it is all part of the big picture plan.

"We're expanding throughout North San Jose, not just a corporate presence but more and more housing, restaurants and retail," Liccardo said. "This will make North San Jose not just a place to work, but a place to live, play and enjoy."

Netflix signed a five-year deal with the city and said they plan to move the DVD division by the beginning of October.

The relocation will also add 225 jobs to San Jose's workforce.
