Sonoma Co. Man Accused Of Making Fake IDs, Credit Cards

PENNGROVE (CBS SF) - A Penngrove man is suspected of running a counterfeit drivers' license and credit card operation from his home, a Sonoma County sheriff's lieutenant said Wednesday afternoon.

Christopher Matheson, 34, was arrested Wednesday at his home for a parole violation, Lt. Dennis O'Leary said.

After the arrest, detectives got a search warrant for his home and discovered equipment and machinery to produce counterfeit drivers' licenses and credit cards, O'Leary said.

Matheson also had a supply of blank plastic cards, magnetic strips, holograms and other items as part of a sophisticated counterfeiting operation, O'Leary said.

Detectives believe Matheson was selling the fraudulent credit cards and using them to purchase items, O'Leary said.

"We are in the preliminary stages of this investigation and will be consulting with the DMV and bank investigators," O'Leary said.

Matheson was being held in the Sonoma County jail under a no-bail warrant for a parole violation.
