San Francisco Fire Department Vehicle Destroyed In Collision

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — A San Francisco Fire Department rescue vehicle was destroyed and a battalion chief and a civilian were hurt in a collision at 8th and Bryant Streets Sunday morning.

The Accident happened around 8 a.m. when the battalion chief was responding to an accident on the Bay Bridge.

KCBS' Bob MelroseReports:

The chief was going Code 3 with red lights and sirens blaring at east bound on Bryant Street. She was about to enter the 8th street on-ramp to the Bay Bridge when she was hit by a pickup truck headed south bound on 8th.

Police Lieutenant Gaetano Caltagironi said the fire department rescue vehicle; similar to a utility truck, was destroyed when it rolled over.

Both individuals, the firefighter and the civilian, were transported to the hospital to seek medical treatment with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Catagironi.

It does not appear alcohol was involved, but the firefighter will be tested as a matter of policy.

Ironically she was responding to another rollover on the bridge.
