Man Wounded In San Francisco Aquatic Park Shooting

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A shooting near San Francisco's Aquatic Park on Monday night sent a man to the hospital, a Golden Gate National Recreation Area spokeswoman said Tuesday.

San Francisco police informed National Park Service dispatchers about the shooting at 8:12 p.m. after receiving reports of several shots fired in the area, and U.S. Park Police arrived a short time later, spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said.

San Francisco police were at the scene with the victim, a young adult from San Francisco who had been shot in the back, she said.

The victim had been found in a parking area at the end of Van Ness Avenue, near the bocce ball courts, Picavet said.

He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and in listed in stable condition. Park police investigators interviewed him Tuesday, she said.

Because the shooting happened on national park property, it is in the jurisdiction of the park police, who are collaborating with San Francisco police on the investigation.

"We work together often and well," Picavet said.

Several people had cars parked in the parking area at the time of the shooting, and they were unable to remove their cars for about an hour while the investigation was under way.

The victim was expected to recover, and police were continuing to analyze the evidence collected from the crime scene.

Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting.
