San Jose School Renamed To Honor Flight 93 Captain

SAN JOSE (CBS 5) - Students who were not even born when United Flight 93 went down on September 11th, 2001, honored the San Jose man who piloted the plane at a ceremony Tuesday.

Flight 93 Captain Jason Dahl was one of several people credited with preventing hijackers from crashing the San Francisco-bound flight into its intended target.

Dahl and his sisters attended Hillsdale Elementary School in San Jose. At a ceremony Tuesday, the school was officially renamed the Captain Jason M. Dahl Elementary School.

"He would be overwhelmed, proud and impressed," said Dahl's sister Carol Heiderich. "He would probably even think that he was not that deserving, you know. He was always trying to make sure that everyone else was taken care of. He was really a caregiver, so I think he would be overwhelmingly proud of this."

The school also established a scholarship in Captain Dahl's name for aspiring aeronautical students.
