SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A man who was fatally shot in San Francisco’s Mission District early Monday morning has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 45-year-old Dwayne Spruell.

Spruell, a San Francisco resident, was killed in a shooting reported at 2:18 a.m. in the first block of Camp Street, near Guerrero Street.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired found him lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and another to the chest, police said.

Spruell was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information was available as of this morning, according to police.

The homicide was the third in the city’s Mission District in less than a week.

Early the morning of Aug. 30, Gaspar Puch-Tzek was killed in a shooting near the intersection of 19th and San Carlos streets. Later that night, 29-year-old Edson Lacayo was found fatally shot in the 800 block of Hampshire Street.

No arrests have been made in either of those shootings, which prompted the Police Department to step up patrols in the neighborhood over the weekend to try to quell potential violence between the Norteño and Sureño gangs.

Both of the Aug. 30 shootings are being investigated as gang-related, according to police. Investigators believe Puch-Tzewk may have been mistaken for a gang member, which he was not.

Anyone with information about any of the three shootings is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
