Gunman Sought In Oakland Safeway Robbery

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A man is being sought in the armed robbery of a Safeway grocery store cashier, Oakland police said.

At about 4:50 a.m. Saturday, a suspect purchased an item at the Safeway at 6310 College Ave., then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the cashier and demanded money, police said.

The suspect then fled on foot and fired his gun when security tried to stop him. Although there were no injuries, the Police Department has prioritized finding the suspect because of his willingness to fire his weapon.

The suspect is described as a black man with light complexion who is in his early 20s, standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 175 pounds. He has black hair and green eyes and was unshaven and had an earring in his right ear. He was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a white T-shirt underneath, police said.

The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oakland police Investigator Cliff Bunn at (510) 238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572.
